Caught this guy on Friday the 21st day before the derby cause that was the only day I had an opportunity to get out. It measured 19" with out tail pinched completely. Best I've ever caught. Really wish i had been able to get it on Saturday instead.:angry3: http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy271/holymolymacaroly/IMG_20141121_110157039_HDR_zpseifupbax.jpg (http://s799.photobucket.com/user/holymolymacaroly/media/IMG_20141121_110157039_HDR_zpseifupbax.jpg.html)

You probably don't want to tell where you caught it, but if you don't care feel free to share! haha. Where the heck are you guys even catching fish already - I didn't know the ice would be thick enough?

Nice fish!! Lots of fun once they hit the 15"+ mark. May have to take a drive come spring. Been a couple of years since I went out for them.
That one dived, it's a brookie, there goes the other line, rainbow!!
Which one do I pull in first? I miss that.... The last few years have had cold krappy weather that time of the year, haven't hit the hatches right for about 5-6 yrs now. maybe next spring.

It definitely caught me off guard and was a very suspenseful few minutes. I had gone almost three hours with not even a bite and all a sudden whamm!!!! I was using one of my smallest rod and reels with 6lb line. I was a little worried to say the least bit it all panned out in the end. Can't wait to do it again next year. Where I was I was told once the ice is about 6" or more and November is over there's almost no point in going.

WOW!, that one is a beast ! GJ !
Beauty Congrats.
Can you tell me why it is a female please. Thanks
Besides the dumb look and open mouth making no sense ... lol ....
The heads are different from male to female trout, salmon and char species.
It's more obvious during the spawn as male develop a kipe (elongated hook jaws).
Females tend to have a rounder and smaller "normal" looking head. They are sometimes tough to distinguish outside of pre-spawn or spawning season.

Congrats on a really nice brookie.
Another way to tell sex on trout is that the back of jaw on females ussually end before or at the same distance of eye. In this pic. the back of jaw seems to end behind the eye so I wouldn't be so sure this isn't a male, who just hasn't developed kipe yet.
Either way very nice fish.
