Skating on Ice

Going fishing this weekend and I was wondering if anyone knows how smooth the ice is under the snow around Edmonton. I want to bring the kids and figure a small skating rink would make a nice distraction for them

As far as I know, the best ponds to skate on prohibit ice fishing, for obvious reasons.

Where I went (Chickakoo) lots of the ice was soft on top with flood water, so wouldn't have been good for skating...

Well you could still bring them - you can tow the kids with your truck on those side roads - they're pretty icy :thinking-006:

We will use snowboards for that!
