I am shopping for a new point and click digital camera and have tried all the usual suspects:
Future Shop
Best Buy
London Drugs
Saneal Camera
The Camera Store
Vistek
Japan Camera
Don's Photo
Finding the model I want is tough - the big box stores don't carry it. Anything else you might suggest - maybe smaller shops?

What is it you are actually looking for?
I heard something recently about a compact digital that was a "sportsman's" model or something. It was water tight to a certian depth. And could be operated under water.
The stores you mentioned should have about all the variety one could ask for, I would think.

I'm not sure if there is a Mcbain Camera in your area or not but you can call them to see if they carry the one your after. I'm sure they would send you one if they carried it.

McBain is where I bought my last camera and they would get my vote. They ship anywhere and online orders are shipped very quickly.

Precisely the one I'm looking for!! Mostly because I had a brand new camera last spring, but it took a dive into the bow river and never took another picture...
Either this one...

Right now Don's Photo has the most stock and the best price. Anyone with any experience with Don's?
I will search out this other outfit and see what I can find. Thanks for input thus far...

From what I can see thus far - very good stock and comparable prices.

You have ordered from them in the past with no issues? - I'm not a big fan of buying online, but will if I have to....

Tried London Drugs - they have the more expensive model of the Olympus, but not the one I'm looking for. >: Definately would have made life easy though...

ebay, do a google search and you should come up with a few us companys that will ship or go directly through the company if you can.

For someone who has never ordered online and is perhaps a little nervous about it the McBain camera option is much better than ebay. Actually, I think the McBain camera option is much better for anyone. They are a stand up company, excellent selection, pricing, service, knowledgeable sales staff. They deserve the support over those "box" stores.

I called an order in and the guy told me to do it online if I had a computer, as it would go much faster. I've bought 2 from them online and it was very quick.

Hi ULTRAlite, I bought my last camera online from McBains; no complaints.
I bought my camcorder from www.henrys.com in Toronto and they were excellent, they have an amazing selection, great customer service, very good prices, and the newest cameras available.
Good Luck!

Have bought most of my film supplies through McBaine without problems. London Drugs is one of the most expensive, but they will match pricing if you find it elsewhere.

Watch for the sales at London Drugs. I got a good price on a Sony with Zeiss lens last year. Great camera and has a large screen. You can also add different lenses to the camera if you want. Mine is only a 5 megapixel and i think they now have a 9. Technology changes pretty quick but when i did my home work the Sony made the most Cents!!.

investigate the megapixel thing. Packing more pixels on the same size element isn't always the ticket to better quality images.

Let us know what you get, from where and how you like it after you've been out with it awhile. Fishing with a "resistant"
would be a little more relaxing.

The konica Minolta Z3 has large lens glass, 12x optical zoom, anti shake, vodeo etc. The best 4 megapixel camera I've had.
About $300 now, I paid $600 2 yrs ago.
What winged1 said is true,
Not all megapixel ratings are equal.
Digital CCD imagers can be different sizes.

Finally made up my mind...

So far working great and just getting myself used to settings / options. Seems to be as sturdy and well built as the manufacturer suggests...
Here are a few starter pics from this weekend

I own an Olympus stylus 600 and it is a wonderful camera. It was well priced and comes with a rechargeable battery and charger which is a must since digital cameras suck up the batteries. Unless you do alot of enlarging of your pics, 8x10's you don't need a really high megapixel and you'll waste money buying the more expesive cameras with a higher mega pixel. Many cameras come with alot of bells and whistles that the average consumer would never use as well so even though you think you'll use these features chances are you probably won't. You can really get a decent camer for less than $300. I bought my camera from London drugs and their service is great, staff was knowlegable, I'll always buy any future cameras from them.

Nice pics ULTRAlite. Where did you end up buying the camera from and what did you pay, if you don't mind me asking?

Very happy thus far. Gave it a good workout the other night just to make sure there wasn't any manufacturing defects. Played around in my fish tanks for a while :eek - definately waterproof, but time will tell how long it stays that way.
