Depends what Im fishing for.

Small for whites and perch, and trout(where allowed).

Larger for walleye, big whites and a few other species like pike.

really need more info for people to answer you question. You buy different sized bait for different fish. Bait for pike is going to be a whole lot bigger than bait for perch. What do you plan on fishing with the minnows you got? Than people can tell you if there to big or not.

Big bait = Big fish.

As others have mentioned depends what you are fishing for. If fishing for big pike a 12 inch bait isn't all that crazy. If fishing for perch will want a small minnow.

Ive caught some of my biggest pike on small baits, including 2 1/2 inch minnows. sometimes they want a smaller bait. I tried a 3 pound sucker and caught a 4 pound pike on it, pretty dissapointing, for me not the pike he scored big because it fell back down the hole so he could steal it after I released him :angry3:

Wayne ... Chumming is the practice of luring fish such as sharks, by throwing "chum or 3 lb suckers" into the water or down the hole. Chum is bait consisting of whole 3 lb suckers and blood & guts, which attract fish, particularly sharks owing to their keen sense of smell.

Thought that's what you mainly catch down south ... right ?
