keep the shine off the water, even in 30 plus feet it spooks them, found out the hard way

Burbot use their more acute sense of smell/taste and are less inhibited at night as they have the advantage for exploring in the dark. Lights may make them spooky as they are then suddenly exposed and out of cover...Hope that makes sense to you.

Test it out. Alternate every half hour. Record number of bites.

Let us know what you find out.

It is unlawful to;

Use lights to sportfish unless the light is attached to a hook or line used in angling. This includes visible lights that are emitted by underwater cameras.

......... FYI

Im sure having a head lamp on in a tent or lantern is legally fine. It is unreasonable to expect people to just stumble around in the dark. :snapoutofit:

As for fishing, I have had bites with the lamp on in my tent on and off. Would like to hear others experiences as well.

I've only fished for them in cold lake and caught lots no light but when I lived in bc the natives would have a lantern set up in deep water and would pull them out all night in the top 10-20 feet and they told me that they are attracked by the light thats all I've heard

I was joking. But knew I would get answers.

My buddy and I were at gull tonight sitting in the truck with the headlights on to see our lines. After quite some time with no action he shut off the lights for about a minute and when he tuned them on it was 'fish on' we laughed and started talking about superstitious fishing. :bad_boys_20:

So what I really want to know is What weird superstitious fishing tricks do you have?

You know like tieing knots a certain way, putting your minnow or other bait on at a particular angle. I'm sure there are lots.

We use illuminators(LED jigheads)and do well with them so I'll x3 that they like lights.

The info given was still very appreciated.

I catch most of my burbs when jigging very slowly. Just to give them some movement to hone in on.

Only works on pike for me too. The other fish must have smaller ears.

I have no fishing superstitions at all, but I do a few seemingly strange things with an exact purpose in mind that usually work almost perfectly every time... does that make sense?

A few habits or preferences I have ....

1) I hook my herring slightly nose down ........ can't tell you why, but it seems to entice more strikes as the bait looks like it's naturally nosing down into the mud when I jig it a bit.

2) Will not use steel leaders - prefer fluorocarbon leader material

3) Will not use cheap swivels, rings or snaps or other terminal tackle under any circumstances. If I can't find it locally, I will order it online.

4) I won't drill a hole in the same cavity as someone else ...
