Glad you enjoyed that, thank you too.
still have some for the 308 win man did they blow things up when you shot them with those bullets, very similar to noslers ballistic tips. the bronze tips were not as bad as the sabre tips tho if I remember correctly

Didn't know they made a pointed bullet for the 30/30 back then!

I put a box of the yellow tipped 170gr. Sabre Tips into a whole lot of paper way back when. Never got a shot at game with em.(maybe thankfully)
They were a yellow tip for 170's and blue for 150's if I'm not mistaken.
Round nose and nylon tipped.
Weird is just one of the many terms used to describe them.

Yellow tipped 170's were the weight we had. The rounded nylon tip was just too large of meplat for the material and couldn't take the abuse the lead meplats could. The 30/30 were easily the worst for blowing up in the Sabre tip line. Not something you ever expected from a 30/30
Swore by the bronze points! Wouldn't touch a sabre tip with a 10' pole

There's a full box of 180 gr. Imperials in my Grandpa's gun cabinet for his .303. I am to assume that when I get my PAL these bullets would be best used at the range? Are they pretty catastophic on game?
Chief getting hit with anything out of .303 would be pretty much catastrophic. I always used the 150's but we had some 180's laying around too.

I never had anything to do with the 30/30 when growing up, dad had one in the basement, but he got it in his yearly horse trade that he did with some friends, I never saw him shoot it either.
We always used 270's, 30'06's, and 303's for big game.
That is why I said I didn't know they made a saber tip in 30/30 - I assumed they called the round tipped 30/30 bullets something else!!
Interesting, I pulled a bunch of 150's about 20 years ago, and they were staked - indentations punched inthem.
When I asked him about it, my father explained that it was an attempt from the "big brains in the plant" at making the bullet hold together better!
I am going to post a few pics of some VERY different 30/30 bullets from the
C.I.L. line that I also never saw till i just looked in the box I have from the museum - FMJ , and a FMJ with an indented meplat, like a pistol bullet!
NEVER saw any of these before, has anybody else?

Here are the two cartridges i was taking about earlier, NEVER seen either of them in real life before!
both 30/30's, both 150 grains, the one on the left having the indented meplat.
very interesting indeed....
