Ice is 15-16 inches as of Sunday, iced 7 fish before noon and then it dropped off. Your call as for the driving on.

I'll try to make it out this Sunday for the first time ever to CVR and bringing my brother along who's never been ice fishing.

Any tips for CVR? I'll have a three man pop up, planning to bring some 2-3 inch smelts and jigs and will be happy to pull anything through the ice to get my brother hooked.

I'll set up some quick strike rigs for tip-ups with a dead stick too, hope to see some action!

I have been going there a lot over the past three years and i have had the best luck with a pickeral rig and 3-6 inch smelts. a few jigging with a rapala rattler (gold)

More often seem to be biting the "jig rod" out there than the tip ups. Have had some days caught over 20 fish in the group not 1 bite on the still bait tip ups. Any type of jig set up with some smelt should work.

Good luck!

Anyone care to disclose the best areas to fish (feel free to PM). My summer spot at Crawling seems to be useless in the winter. I practice catch and release.

Does anyone know if there are any natural springs on Crawling Valley anywhere? I remember someone mentioning it years ago.

I have fished CV for 15 years and have never known of any myself.

Thanks for any feedback on this one.

Supposed to be one on the NW side by the islands which btw ,jhutter is a good place to start your hunt for the CV pike.

Heard a F&W went part way through a few years back but don't put much credence into that one.

That's what I was looking for. Thanks.

So there is a spring on the NW side, then. Hmmmmm, interesting.

I plan to be ice fishing CV this weekend. I usually wait for there to be 24 inches before driving my 1/2 on the ice, though.

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it.

Does anyone know if you can get down red/orange rock road? Or is it snowed in?

Been fishing over there for many years and no driving issues. As always check the path you are going to take first. The spring the f&w hit was close to shore. Was a strange one.

Tons of trucks on there today (Jan 10). Had one bite and landed none. Saw lots of people moving fishing holes. Not sure if anyone had better luck than me.

Fish had commitment issues today. Thankful for the marcum as it sure made a slow day lots of fun for the kids. Lots of action right before dark but didn't manage to ice any. There's always next weekend.....

We fished the West side today. Just off the edge of a bay, a couple of K down the lake. I plunked myself "right above" a weed bed. Drilled three holes. Landed 15, lost half a dozen at the ice. I highly recommend a camera if you dont fish with one. You can see the bite, and entice the fish to bite also. Way cool. All Pike, no walleye seen. The wife had a blast! Cheers!

Was out on Sunday as planned and only iced one small pike, 22 inches. Was using a white and green jig head with smelt in 11 feet along with everyone else. Had a few lookers throughout the day but none liked what I was offering. The one I did get was on a dead stick on a tip up.

Just curious for those that landed a good number, care to share your setup? I saw up to 8 lookers on the flasher and they stuck around for a while just wouldn't commit.
