I have been reading a few threads regarding rabbit hunting. I thought I would share this method of gutting a rabbit in a few seconds. An old gent showed me this method 20 years ago. Works great on fresh shot or caught rabbits.

Take the rabbit and sqeeze his rib cage hard.... squeeze all the insides down into his belly. Squeeze the innards as far to the rear end as you can. Then take the rabbit by the head and snap the rabbit like a whip. All the innards should come out of the rabbits rear end. Then skin as you choose.

Anyone else use this method? I thought it was better than gravy.

I would end up doing this with my mouth open and some really bad results.

I'd like to add:
'Whip' loaded rabbit in a direction AWAY from bystanders, expensive vehicles and structures.'

I can't keep from laughing thinking about some poor rabbit's innards being expelled at Mach 1 all over some inexperienced hunter. Really tempted to try ........ :scared0018:

Even for gut shot rabbits? Things could get messy. Lots of green stuff. Copropraphagic.

Thanks for posting the link Hydro1. I like this way even better than the whip crack. Same method of preparing the rabbit, just smoother than whipping the rabbit.

If you body shot the rabbit would it work as well? I'm thinking hide integrity is a key factor here.

It might not work well on a gut shot rabbit. Will have to try next time a gut shot rabbit is available. The hide could tear more with the force.

Broadside with the 300 Wby. No matter what anyone says, it's all about shot placement. :)

Just go gutless method-take a filleting knife, cut out the backstraps, its easy to remove front and back legs. its weird how deer and rabbits have similar anatomy, but gutless works great!

otherwise my Dad had a method-but he snapped the guts onto dry newspaper and yanked.....still could be a mess.

I use gutless unless I get a very young rabbit I want to roast stuffed and whole

I prefer the gutless method on rabbits but the method described in the OP sounds quite entertaining. :)

Thanks for posting (OP and video, likewise).

the few well known traditional methods, going gutless (as mentioned above by bunnyhunter) and this squeezing technique? It all goes to show there is always more than one way to get a job done right!
