Newal derby?

Is there going to be a derby at newal this year? What are the rules (is there a bait ban) do they still have good door prizes? Where could i get an entry?

I haven't heard anything about there not being a derby at Newell this year. It's usually in the second week of February. I'd imagine there would be a bait ban again this year.

With the closure, highly unlikely they would be able to get a CFE to hold one.

If i remember right the newel derby was cancelled and doesnt exist anymore.

Dont be surprised when badger is next. Its just a matter of time.

Cancelling the Badger derby will help the fishery. Be glad to see it happen.

Closing it to all fishing would help it also. The derby is catch and release and fishing usually slow with all the commotion out there probably more fish killed on other weekends.

I'm pretty sure having an extra 1000 fishing lines in the water for 3 days straight isn't helping the lake. I was happy when the derby went to C&R but the lake will be better off with no derby. It's a small lake, the largest lake in the area is C&R for pike now. Looks like more lakes will be 0 possession as well. It's only a matter of time till possession limit for pike in all PP1 is 1 or 0. There is too much fishing pressure to sustain the derby.

Besides if you really think the derby has little effect on the lake fish there the week before the derby and the week after. I have and there's a big difference in the quality of the fishing.

They changed it to 2 days a year or two back.
If you have ever fished it you would know it is very slow with all the vehicles causing noise. But non the less it does put some added pressure.....people need to have some fun once in awhile 😄
