I saw that on Instagram this morning, that's awesome! The article is a little vague though. They say in the beginning that it's the largest perch while caught ice fishing and then near the end they change it to the largest caught on a tip up rod. I didn't realize that they had a separate category for tip ups. It's a massive perch but not a record through the ice.

The article is specifying that it was a record through the ice. The Alberta record could've been caught during the open water season. Regardless, I'm still fairly certain that it isn't an ice fishing record. Perhaps an ice fishing record on a tip up, if such a category exists.

The Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame ,keeps records for North America and has some Foreign World Records for Fresh Water fish(its separate from North American)
In Ice fishing for North America they are right the young Lady has a WR on tip-up
Heaviest Pole/Line is 2#13oz
North American in their book is 4#3 Dr C C Abbot in the 5th month1865
In January 2010 a perch with a weight of 3.75 kg (8 lb 4 oz) has been caught in the River Meuse, Netherlands.[3] Due to the low salinity levels of the Baltic Sea, especially around the Finnish archipelago and Bothnian Sea, many freshwater fish live and thrive there. Perch especially are in abundance and grow to a considerable size due to the diet of Baltic herring.
the picture is 7#11oz :test: ... It fell to Dutch predator angler Willem Stolk
The IGFA keeps records for salt water and fresh water too ..but do not accept Ice Fishing catch's has to be with a Rod and Reel or Fly Rod
enjoy
David:)

Another new world record perch

Just one week after Willem Stolk broke the world perch record he has gone and done it again with this jaw-dropping 7lb 11oz specimen.
As reported in last week’s Angling Times, the Shimano-backed Dutch ace broke the previous best with a huge stripey weighing 6lb 10oz but continued with his campaign on Haringvliet Lake to try and find an even bigger lump.
Using a six inch shad lure, it didn’t take long for the ferocious predator to attack the artificial bait and he said: “In preparation for the World Predator Classic event on the venue I have fished 17 days straight. One record was incredible but to bank another one is mind-blowing.”

oh .... sorry .... my mistake ...... I send my congratulations and salutations to him and retract my humorous poke.
I realize that not just anyone can be a "Master" and that it explains the lady's hat in this picture as well. It seems he has a nice collection of these hats.
And ..... It doesn't look nearly as ridiculous now I know he's a "Master". The intense and serious look should have been my cue.
Hawg perch anyways ...... wonder of he would send us some tips.

I am envious of the young ice fishing gal. Congrats ot her.
As far as the records on perch in the Netherlands the records are pushed regularly. They are known as european perch though (Mr. Willem perch too), which are probably a sub species of yellow perch. I recently posted a couple of amazing perch from the netherlands on another thread.

LOL, No I'm with you on the original comment :)
David/Speckle, I know that you like quoting records but those are European Perch and different species. So, I guess I'm saying I really don't care. It would be nice to see some more pics of the species we have here.
Back to the original post, that is one tank of a perch alright. One proud father and happy kid. I've driven though Idaho a number of time but never down the West side of it...might have to take an alternate route.

It would be awesome if some birds would dump some European perch eggs in a certain lake I know. These European perch would eat ours for snacks.
