Today a bunch of us went out to Barrier Lake in K-Country for some ice fishing and the wind raged so hard that it was unfishable. We moved along to another area and fished for grayling for a few hours. Three fish were caught and I caught the beast of the day. This is my personal best arctic grayling and it was 18 inches. I dont know what the weight was.

That is a beast of a grayling by any Alberta standards. Back when I used to pursue them in the Wildhay, Berland, Little Smoky, etc. (it's been many years) that would about equal the best I ever pulled in, out of many, and I bushwhacked or floated a long way to see any that size - only in some very remote areas. It would be about average for some places in Yukon/far northern BC/NWT, but one's that size are exceedingly rare in AB. Congrats.

don't know if it's replica worthy, but most haven't lived in an area where you can catch graying, so they are a bit of a unicorn to most people.
Good one for sure, tho.

I was at the same pond New year's day and a grayling jumps out of hole. Must be pretty boring down there.

I don't know if I would admit to that on here. I might get banned.

Just wondering Jacenbeers if you have fished Barrier Lake before? If yes, what fish to target. I cannot find any info about the lake. Lakes in Kananaskis are my favorite to fish but have not try Barrier lake. Thanks.

I fished it yesterday but it was too windy to stick around. I fish for trout there and have caught brown trout only. I have seen schools of whitefish along the dam when the water level is low but have never caught them in there. I am guessing it probably also has bulls.
