A buddy and I are headed to Carson tomorrow and hope to catch a few trout. My wife and I fished there on Jan.14 and, while we did see 25-30 fish on the camera, we didn't catch a single one.

Can anyone provide some helpful pointers on what lure, what bait, what FOW, etc.?

Try a small 1/64 oz jig with a piece of cooked shrimp about a 1/4 inch piece is enough. I usually switch between yellow, red, and pink until the fish bite. This year they have been mainly on the bottom in 20 feet of water.
If you are in the right depth they will show up, if not move. Afternoon has not been good for me. Usually best is 9-12 noon. Good luck.

pink power bait or shrimp on a 1.5-2 in. long red or silver spoon. I have had my most of my action between 8 and 13 fow.
With trout begin a cold water species they can be at any depth, some kind of flasher or fish finder will really help to get your lure to the right depth and in front of them.
Good luck!

I'll be heading there tomorrow as well. I usually use various types of powerbait. More often than not, I'm successful. I probably just jinxed myself.

Fluorescent Orange powerbait has always done me well , also pink teardrop lures seem to work better than most

Thanks for the help guys. Last time to Carson, neither the missus or I caught a fish. Hopefully, my buddy and I will catch some today.

My tip for carson...I never fish more than 5 feet below the ice in 18-20 fow. Although I only fish it a couple times a year, always come home with my limit. Come down the boat launch and head to the left about 500 yards. Find 18-20. I like pink and chartreuse jigs with either a tiny piece of Orange powerbait dough on the bend of the hook or shrimp. Good luck!

Excellent tip. The shrimp hang out closer to the the underside of the ice as the season wears on. Rainbows, like all other fish, eat these guys like candy. yup .... just like candy.

Lots of people driving on it. Looked like a parking lot last weekend, had to be about 10 trucks all sides by side
