I took the day off on Friday and pulled my youngest out of school to go fishing. We went to our cabin at Garner Lake which seems like a tough nut to crack sometimes. I've had great days and horrible days out there and so in typical fashion, this is the story of my weekend.

Got up early on Friday and hit the ice shortly after sun up. Started in 10 FOW and saw one small pike who wanted nothing to do with us. Between then and 4:00 didn't see a thing. I must have drilled 50 holes throughout the day on every shoreline and all the usual water depths where I'd expect to find them. Just as the day was done, I drilled a couple holes in almost 25 feet and found one lone perch. My oldest son drove out with my best friend after work and the four of us hit it Saturday morning.

I started deeper Saturday and within 2 minutes of putting the camera down, there was a school of footballs down there. We caught our limit and must have released 40 more throughout the day.

Today was slower but still alright. Went home with a couple meals of yummy perch and had a great weekend with some of my favorite people on earth.

Every now and then I see people criticizing others for saying which lake they were at and I suppose I could play the lake x game, but here's the thing... none of these guys were easy pickings. I invested almost 9 hours of my day off drilling holes in the ice all over the lake to find these perch. There are better lakes out there where they are easier to find. I either got lucky or blessed or something. Tight lines everybody.

Either way nice job! I'm going to be doing the same thing at another lake cause I know that are in this lake its just a matter of putting in the time and finding them. Can't wait!

That is a lot of work for perch. Congrats on the success!!

I'm sure it will be fine. A limit of 5 total also helps. Just don't give away Brandon's secret spots ....

Nice perch, congrates. I myself find that its not the lake itself but the spot on the lake that is secret. the fishes could be in one spot one day and another the next day. Can fish a whole lake and not catch a thing, its that one spot that produces.

classic 90 percent of the fish are in 10 percent of the lake....which holds true in many of my favorite fishing lakes....and is the reason i like them...love a good challenge.

Congrats on a nice weekend spent fishing with friends and family. Those fish can be very tricky to find.

Great post. Will be doing the same next week at either touchwood or siebert. Not sure which one yet. Nice to see someone having perch action. Not much luck with that species so far this season for me

Sorry - re-read your post. Your oldest son and friend joined you and you boy.

That makes 4 people fishing.

Just the kind of story I love to read on here! I'm so happy for you, you certainly did put a lot of work into it and therefore deserve it!
I agree with Kim that with perch it's really not what lake but "where" on the lake the perch are biting! Just about every lake has perch in it, it's just to find the little buggers and then weather or not they're in the mood of biting that day! Since I've added a fish camera to my arsenal I've seen perch in every lake Ive looked in! But I sometimes it takes me a while!:thinking-006:
