Asymmetric warfare is using a $25,000 round to take out:

- a $300 Toyota driven by
- a couple grade three jihadists wielding
- $40 AK knock offs.

The enemy's $380 loss is easily made up by ISIS oil sales to our 'friends' in the rest of the industrialized world.
Our $25,000 'investment' will be paid for by new and/or higher taxes.

At this rate the war will be abandoned before it is lost.

edit: cool gear though.

What do you think it costs to send 6 CF-18's with hundreds of support crew to the theatre, then plan and execute a sortie to drop one or two bombs? I bet a heck of a lot more than $25,000 for each ISIS combatant killed. Wouldn't surprise me if we were spending a million dollars for each kill. Troops on ground guiding in rail gun munitions would be WAY cheaper. Of course we are talking years from now.

Oko, no doubt you are totally right about the higher cost per kill of an F-18 mission when the cost of supporting the 6-pack is all in.

My whole point is that we are engaged in a war where the enemy spends pennies for every twenty that we spend = not sustainable.
I don't know what the alternatives are, but this thing is gonna bankrupt the West is the take-away.

Heck, we are fighting an enemy whose PEOPLE are their warhead delivery system. Talk about a smart bomb.

Maybe we just need to build fake police stations and checkpoints and let them expend their zealots on those. ;)

a 15 second blast from a mini gun is all that is required to take care of the three jihadists in the toyota. Its all about cost benefit analysis.

Correction,
Some things , money can't buy , for everything else ,there's The Federal Reserve.

you can substitute any BIS affiliated central bank of any country.

A private for profit corporation, backed and guaranteed by the 'full faith and credit' of the taxpayer, = neo-serfdom.

God save us all.

And who fires the said minigun?
It would be a heavily supported soilder.
Its more than just the team on the ground.
the humvee, the UAV's, the Helo's and aircraft above, the base, the mess tent, mechanics for the humvee, helo, or aircraft.

all adds up!

Never you worry about how much the American military needs to spend per round or per confirmed kill. China has virtually endless trillions of lending money and borrowing is entirely inconsequential. 'Murica!!

I wonder how they deal with the curvature of the earth?

You can only see directly for about 70 miles some sort of guidance system I assume?

I wonder what 7000 kph. is in FPS

Just over 11000 fps or 3300 mps. Roughly twice the speed of a modern apfsds round out of a smooth bore gun which is abt 1600mps . Coriolis (sp?) Calculations are run off abt time over distance based roughly at 1000mph . So many other factors in these kind of shots. suns orintation on the barrel , barrel wear ? As only the driving bands of the sabot contact the barrel. Barometric changes over shot distance . A modern mbt can get shot solutions with a combination of togs and the lazer out to abt 15k not aware of any shots being taken . The graticule works to 3.2 k, this would make corrections past that distance very difficult. 5.2k is the max ive witnessed . With our artillery sight and an elevated firing platfom indirect fire can be made to 25 k though a FO is required for correction . This tech has been in the skunk works for a long time getting the size down being the issue . At mach 7 the target would need to be exceeding 100mph at 15k to even be considered moving :sHa_shakeshout:

It would turn your truck inside out lol and it would be of no use on a soft target... you might find a section of spine... twenty odd ft from impact . Notice the projectile compressing the air into plasma prior to impact with the concrete. :)

We put more value on our lives than they do on theirs

But many would argue, that ^ is our major self-defeating failing. We put way far too much value on our no-account, insignificant, worthless individual lives. And that is why, in the end, we will be totally, utterly defeated.

Yes?
