Hauled out the home-made PTO-driven table saw today!
Gave the blade a touch-up, and, we're ready to cut some timbers! :sHa_shakeshout:

Needs a conveyor belt feed and a moustachioed villain sending tied up damsels to their certain doom.... until next episode when the gallant hero arrives via a steam train/ horseback journey.

I'm jealous.

Do you ever have kickbacks on that saw?
I've been looking into building a bandsaw mill
It just seems a lot safer.

What will you be using for infeed and outfeed, roller stands? What is the blade diameter and your maximum cut depth?

I've been cutting up old power-poles, so the pieces going through are heavy enough to avoid kick-backs. Having said that, the saw must be run with running water on the blade, otherwise, the blade heats up and starts to bind.

I wear rain-gear when operating this contraption!

A band-saw style would certainly be cleaner (and probably a bit safer) to run.

One thing I do like about this though, is that it cuts nice'n straight, and, leaves beautiful saw-marks for a rustic rough look.

Yup - roller stands and minimum two people for sure.

Yikes! Fingers beware :)

I always thought a guy could build one like a chop saw to avoid kickbacks.

I'm cutting the poles length-wise into boards - not chopping them

I'm cutting the poles length-wise into boards - not chopping themI think your contraption is highly dangerous, one day that blade will cause a kick back and....:scared0018:
I had 150 old power poles cut into 1" boards by a guy with a portable band saw. I sided my house with these boards and even used some in my living room.
You'll get more and smoother boards out of a pole or tree with a band saw anyway.

I will not disagree with you there! Anything with a blade can be dangerous. I've seen kick-backs out of regular table saws that have stuck in the wall like an arrow. :sign0068:

As with anything - safety first. :)

You should have told that to my dad years ago. He left the middle three fingers on his left hand behind one day when he was sawing logs.

What is the blade diameter and your maximum cut depth?

27" diameter blade. Maximum cut depth = 11 inches - if you flip the piece being cut, you can achieve close to 22" depth.

lol - yup!

Although this thing looks like the "saw of death", it actually operates the same as any other table saw - just on a larger scale. I've operated much more dangerous equipment than this.

Have you ever seen one of those cork-screw log splitters? :sign0068:

...and, with the PTO power, you can actually idle it right down - nice'n slow - take yer time, and let 'er cut.

My mistake I thought you were cutting them up for firewood. In that case, I am very impressed with the simplicity. Please post some pictures of the boards when you have a chance. Very interesting.

Haven't encountered any steel with the blade yet, although I have removed some before cutting! Power poles are notorious for having steel in them.

You have to add cooling water to saw wood? Are you keeping the blade sharp? Have you thought about rigging up a guard?

In operation. In this job, we're cutting decorative 8-foot 6x6's to go on the outside of the gable end of a new home.

We used to use a metal detector on the poles before we milled them.
