Hey guys figured i may aswell give this a try. A fellow forum member told me its worth a shot and a few guys helped him out in the past.

I am one of those 34 year old Oil and gas guys who got hit hard when the oil prices slammed into the ground. Been having a really tough time landing a job doing really anything. Im not shy of hard work or long hours. I am a fast learner, smart, skilled. I can operate equipment run tools, read a tape, weld, fabricate, run a computer, run a crew of guys with good customer relations skills. I do have a resume available i would ideally prefer oil and gas work as an operator or something along those lines. At this point though im in trouble so im not picky at all, i am ready to work hard and im pretty well rounded. If anyone on here has any leads that would be super great. Probably have to give you a rifle or something or atleast a case of beer if you can help me out.

Happy shooting.

Thanks for reading this guys.

That KIJIJI ad that Fish E O posted could be a hell of an opportunity for anyone wanting to get their foot in the door regarding the machinist trade. Who knows what could come of it. Heads up to those up and coming young gunsmiths that will need experience in this area. David.

Try farming. Buy a western producer magazine. Go to help wanted ads. Seeding will start in 80 days, in the southern parts.:sHa_shakeshout::sHa_shakeshout:

You know that's not a bad suggestion. Lots of bigger operations hire guys for seeding and harvest. I quite enjoy watching the ground turn black behind the airseeder and if you like running equipment its a good gig. Lots of hours and decent pay too.

Absolutely. Most have top of the line tractors. I've often wondered about those combine jobs where you combine from Texas to Saskatchewan.

I don't know when they start in Texas. I think they road those combines all the way back to canada in time for fall harvest.

There are 2 different potato farmers in the Taber area looking for rock pickers and potato graders. That is the only work they have until seeding starts. But the starting wage at both places is $10.20. a hour.

As someone who has been in the position of not knowing where your next meal is coming from it is most excellent to see people rally like this to help out a fellow outdoorsman.Kudo's guys.

I know for sure CP is looking for some larger conductor classes to hire as I work for them. It's a good paying job with benefits. As well they are hiring in other departments. Pee clean and have a grade 12 and pass the aptitude tests and you should be a shoe in. 120$ish/day training for 4-5 months and no reason you can't make 80k a year to start. 100k per year not too long after that. CN is also a good option, but I am unaware what their training wage is or their wage structure is. Should be comparable though.

Seriously give them a try. So many people retiring over the last few years, we need to replace a lot of people in this industry. Transport companies like railways ALWAYS make money, even in recession and depression. If you get in soon, lay offs would be a lot shorter if any as seniority is king.

Your choice, as the hours can be hard and the lifestyle can be hard. I have consistently made over 100k/year for 3 years in a row now, and 90's and 80's for the earlier years. I've been on 10 years now and even though it can be a hard lifestyle, all my benefits are paid for and pension is well funded.

PM me if you have any questions.
