Im new to the area and I want to do some ice fishing for trout.... Planning on going out towards the end of the month and wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some hot spots?

A good start would be to tell us where you live and I am sure a few of us can point out some good places to go.

Try southwest of Calgary at Chain Lakes. It's about a hour drive from Calgary.
Use highway 22 south of Longview.

and im wondering if i could ice fish there ... i was looking it up and ran across something that doesnt sound like to much fun ....

"The reservoir was named for the three Chain Lakes that nearly filled the area now covered by the reservoir. These lakes were fed by numerous springs; in winter, the ice was often so thin that buffalo crossing the lakes would break through and drown (Finlay and Finlay 1987). "

Nah the ice there is fine. I went last year and it was like two feet thick and it was covered in cars and trucks. I am actually headed down there tomorrow but am not going to drive on until I drill a few test holes.
