The Airdrie Hunting & Fishing Association (AHFA) is hosting their fifth annual Family Day Ice Fishing event held at Chain Lakes Alberta.

Chain Lakes is filled full of scrappy rainbow trout and this is one of Alberta’s many lakes where kids and adults can enjoy a fun day of fishing together.

February 14th through 16th (Family Day weekend) kicks off what is called Alberta’s winter fishing days. On that weekend, Alberta residents can fish for free, as no fishing license is required.

During these three days anglers can enjoy a few days of fishing for nothing more than the cost of gas and some tackle.

However, fishing regulations and catch limits and any other special Alberta regulations must still be followed.

A fishing regulation booklet can be picked up free of charge at any Canadian Tire or outdoor sports store.

The AHFA would like to invite anyone that is interested in ice fishing.

If you’re new to the sport, or an avid ice fisherman, please join use on the ice at Chain Lakes on Family Day for a fun day of fishing and

prize giveaways.

Holes will be drilled and the fishing will start at 9 a.m. and last until 3 p.m.

However, you are welcome to come and go as you please.

If you have your own ice fishing gear please bring it. If you are new to the sport, The AHFA will have extra gear to lend you for the day, and will be happy to help anglers in any way we can.

However, if you need gear, please contact one of the board members at www.airdriehfa.com so we can make sure we have enough on hand for everyone.

Don’t be caught indoors.

Plan a fishing trip this weekend and enjoy family and friends on one of Alberta’s many frozen lakes. And remember to practice catch and release so others can enjoy.

Awesome great to see this happen. If you want to go though, do you need to inform the folks there to drill holes for your family, or should you bring an auger just in case
