I caught this through the ice while trolling in the Bow River in downtown Calgary in 35 ft of water by the zoo. I think it is a juvenile burbot. I caught it on a Rapala countdown while jigging and using my Marcum flasher. The ice was nice. I drove my truck right on. I sent it off to the taxidermist for a skin mount. It is close to the record size.

The Jumpingpound Creek strain of Westslope cutthroat trout are a unique subspecies that resemble burbot. That is what this is.

WayneChristie brought his sturgeon tagging gear and we tagged him. We released him by bucket brigade into Lake Sundance to help cull the perch.

I caught it in a spot where I sunk my truck in the river so there is some structure for the fish now. The place used to be 35 but my small truck made it 30 in that spot. The fish near the structure (mostly grayling and lake whites) love the break in the current and stack up there.

Invasive species, spreading faster than Prussian carp. Better at overland travel than a snakehead.

Jacen .... I say .... meh ....... they are common ..... now if you posted a picture of the juvenile males (the rare ones that have golden wings) I would have been impressed.

Where you getting the taxidermy done? I have my unicorn (full mount) being done by an outfit down in Calgary ..... I hear they do great work.

I will see him tomorrow and let you know. I think we might be fishing in the Crowsnest Pass. I will get a status update on your unicorn mount.

I call "BS" on this!!!!!
You caught that downstream at the Bonnybrook outflow. Read your regulations ! It obviously a BrownBurbUcker. You are not allowed to catch them unless using a gill net in that section. If you decide to eat the legs a lovely box of Sunrype Apple Juice goes fine with them.

I gotta call shenanigans. My sister in law sent me this exact picture and said her friend caught it on buffalo lake and didn't know what it was. It's a mud puppy.

It WAS in a bill net when I caught it. It was caught by a front leg but still bit my lure. When I reeled it in I dragged somebody else's net with it and just untangled him and dropped the net back in.

By the way, the net was full of tilapia. I took one to try it and it tasted awesome.

Any star fish in the bow? I know BGSH caught one at hermitage either last year or 2 years ago...I sometimes see them breaching the water along with the sturgeons
