First of all I am not new to ice fishing. But what I am new to ice fishing flashers. I have never used one or been with someone that has one. I don't understand the whole concept behind them. From what I understand they flash attracting fish to your hole. But they must do something more than just flash for $500...?

By the looks of Alberta Bigbore's pics from today they must work.

The flasher you are refering to (I think) is an electronic device that is essentially a fish finder (sonar) that displays results as a "flash" of light on a screen that you watch. Sensitivity can be fine tuned so that you "see" the bottom as a flash, see your lure as a flash & see fish as flashes......all against a depth scale on the flasher unit so you know how deep the water is, how far down you are fishing & what level in the water column fish are suspended at. They take a bit of getting used to, but once you get on to them they are very addictive, and an excellent fishing tool! When you're out ice fishing, visit with neighboring fishermen..........someone's bound to have one and most are more than happy to show them off (so to speak!). I'm sure loads of guys will be commenting on their virtue. Some of course prefer underwater cameras..........both have their place, just as many have individual preferences. Check them out!

lets put it this way... I am kicking myself for not going ahead and buying one 7 years ago. ive been putting it off and putting it off due to not understanding them and not wanting to waste money on being curious.

I will not go fishing without it now. No Sir

Flashers were the first sonars for fishing boats ... The Lowrance

Green Box 300D was legendary ...I still have one in the collection

One thing is that they shoot thru the ice very well so you drill

in the depth you want ....I believe in portables the batteries last longer as well ....

My family swears by them now as well. In the end, you'll catch more fish in less time.
