Couple of buddies and I are thinking of heading east for a couple of days and hitting a few lakes. I wanna try burbot and we would likely be getting there up to 2 hours after sunset. I've never targeted or landed one. Is it still too early in the month to be chasing them?
Would qe be getting there too late?
I got a mitt full of big glow jigs. Some big spoons and a few pieces of stinky bait.
If someone would rather PM that would be equally appreciated.

in general, what depths do they spawn in. i'm guessing it could be lake specific but is the tendancy for them to go shallow, deep or just wherever they happen to be?
thanks all

Burbs are hot right now. Limited out on friday night on a southern reservoir. Good luck. We were fishing 12 to 15 feet.

Just talked to some of my relatives today, and the 2 lakes that are my go to's NE of Edm for burbot, haven't started spawning yet. They figure couple weeks yet.

Does the "stinkier the better" concept still apply at spawn? Or are minnows the best bet?

I was getting mine on a jig and minnow. Tried all sorts of different sizes and kinds of bait and wouldnt take it.

I was on the lake yesterday from 6:30pm to 11:00pm in 7-8ft of water over a gravel bed I sight marked last spring, 18 burbs caught biggest around 10lb and 3 walleye all over 6lb on minnows. We had the aqua-view cam down the hole and the burbot were everywhere spawning.

Might head out tonight so just curious if you guys are using minnows or smelt? I have checked the regs for where I'm going and both are acceptable, but just curious if it would make that much difference as I already have smelt and herring. If minnows are the ticket does anyone know where in south Calgary I can buy?
