Anyone have any experience to share about this? Thinking of enrolling my daughter(aged 11) in the Math portion offered by Kumon.

That only holds if the student actually does the work.

X2 kid needs to do the homework or your wasting your cash.

My wife and I have both our boys in the program for the last year and half. Program is awesome but it is a huge time commitment for the kids and parents. Our boys know they have to work on Kumon every night.

Better off to hire a tutor. My son's tutor came in twice a week, an hour a session, 200 bucks a month. really helped and she was a fully qualified teacher that came right to my place in Red Deer

I had a tutor as a kid...it did squat. My kids do Kumon and it does wonders, Kumon is a proven program..wer wonder why asian kids are good at math? Repetitive practice.

I volunteer tutor high school kids weekly, there are 2 that arrive with a bag of Kumon and spend the 2 hours doing it at a crazy pace. They need tutoring like an extra hole in the head but the few questions they have are readily answered by us. Like any skill, it develops with practise and most teachers barely assign enough homework for the brightest kids to catch on. In the higher grade you should expect/plan for 2 hours + a night for proficiency. Kumon might seem boring/ repetitive but that is how proficiency is built.

If you can afford, the Kumon is money well spent. A lot cheaper than upgrading after grade 12.

I agree as well.
I had issues in grade 9 doing trigonometry(sp?)
Nothing worked until my parents hired me a tutor. 2 sessions a week for a month, and i passed with a 94% on the final.

Kumon has done wonders for our daughters, ineradicable gains in the past 6 months, most importantly it has taught her self discipline when it comes to sitting down and studying. It has been a huge confidence booster for them and worth the money, we have some experience with tutors but far prefer Kumon.

We signed up for a year. She starts in March. Thanks for all the replies and for sharing experiences! I will also look into the tutor as well. It is good to weigh all options.
