We are at 1800 through Meloche. But since the calgary floods and last summers hail they have tried to put a redicclous increase on our renewal the last 2 years. My wife has a calmer head when she calls to ask whats up with the renewal so they review remove some luxuries and we move on. Good luck with those leeches . I guess i'll curse them till I need them!!!

I asked whey so much with renewal, was told 10-15 percent increase for the industry, also if you are not within I believe 10 kms of a fire hall in rural area's , your buildings are " un secured", so up the fees go.

We are close to $4300.00 as well on a 600k property and 16km from the closest Fire Station. Ours is thru Lungren & Young ( Wawanessa ) I am going to do some shopping around as well.

Presently, we are with State Farm, who is far below the other insurance companies' quotes. Still looking for loopholes, but so far the policy looks okay. They are much higher on vehicles, however.

I pay around 2000$ on a new policy with western direct. Cooperators wanted more than double, which is weird because on my old policy cooperators was way cheaper than their competitors.

Will you be using a woodstove? How far are you from a fire dep't?

These are very pertinent questions before you can compare rates to other acreages.

I pay $3k and am too far from a fire dep't.

Does anyone know off hand how close you need to be to the fire dep't before the rate goes up?

10km from the fire hall , wood stove raised the rate 20%.
