Extreme Wilderness Adventures has applied to lease forty acres of land located South of hwy 40 near the forestry trunk road.inPt NE8, PT.NW9, Pt.SW16,Pt.SE17-57-5-W6M in the MunicipleDistrict of Green No.16 for the purpose of developing a hunting lodge and horse pasture. Interested individuals are invited to express their views and comments on land or resource management issues relating to this application. Other outfitters in town have small grazing leases with barns , and for the most part use wall tents in the hunting camps. I personally feel a permanent hunting camp should not be allowed on crown land and will be submitting my letters.

I don't agree with it either, but I don't think its anything new. There are lots of these leases scattered around the Forestry. They used to be called Recreational leases and came with supposedly severe restrictions, like no permanent buildings. Frontiertown, just before the Ya Ha Tinda, is a good example of how the leases were abused. the Outfitter in question, even managed to build a house there and occupied it year round. Then he sold it to the YMCA for big bucks. I am told that there is some pressure out there to make these leases, which were originally for 25 years, permanent. To my way of thinking, just another Public Land grab.

Personally I think that to be able to do something like this you should have to own the trapline that you want to build your lodge on. Then you can maybe apply for the lease. But untill you own the trapline I don't think you should be able to. I would more than love to be able to do something like this in our North camp located a couple hundred km's north of fort mac. It would save us tonnes of work. But still I think you should have to have the trapline.
