I question that it only took 40 minutes to land that fish.
Having faught upto cats I can say they are miserable and run, they never come in easily.
So I can't see that fish simply rolling over and coming in easily and on command for him.

Sure looks well over 280 lbs to me. I would guess it at 600 lbs or more.

I won't disagree with you you there, but I did see the story on CNN. Reminds me of photos that people take of their bear with them behind it so you can just see their head and the bear looks huge. and I am not saying that there is something wrong with that!

These catfish do exist and the record was caught in a net and was way bigger. Go to the following to see some other examples:

PO Delta River in Italy.

What did the guy use to catch this monster?

Perhaps a couple of extra large anchovy pizzas put on a meat hook and rope setup tied to the trailer hitch of a rig rocket?

Nope he showed the lure, some sort of Rattl'n Rapala, about 3 to 4" inches long and looked like this, but different colors, white/redish.

I liked the next story that was linked to this one , shows a video of some of these larger catfish pushing up onto the shore and grabbing pigeons .
I thought this to be strange , that a fish would go after a bird , but soon said to myself ... I guess that it is , a CATfish . :)
