I'll be going Ice Fishing on January 2 and am looking for some suggestions as to where to go (what's hot this year, etc). I've done lots of ice fishing over the years, but haven't been able to get out for the past three years or so....

Here's the parameters - if you can recommend any place that fits the bill, I'd appreciate it. If you've got any advice on how to access, what part of the lake to target, lures, bait or technique, that's helpful too.

- I'd like to stay within 2 hours from Edmonton (any direction is fine).

- I'd like a lake where the ice is thick enough to take a light truck (jeep) out onto the ice.

- Would prefer to target perch, jackfish, whitefish, etc. I've taken tons of trout and want to bring something different home for the pan....

I'm taking a good buddy of mine who just recently came back from Afghanistan. We rarely get the chance to catch up, and I'd like to make this a very productive trip, with lots of action. Don't care about trophy sized fish, just want to make sure we have a good time.

Thanks for any advice!
