Just wondering if you guys on here gut and scale your lake whites or do you fillet them? Got a couple in the sink thawing out and just thinking about trying to fillet them, seems like a hell of a lot less work.

That's what I've done for a quarter of a century, just trying to find a quicker way. I'm feeling lazy. lol.

If the whites are a decent size (say over 15") I fillet them. They fillet very quickly. A quick slice of the ribs and a notch for the pinbones leaves a nice Y shaped boneless fillet that fries up very quickly.

Where is a good lake to get into the whites. My 7 year old wants to go catch some. I am looking for something north of Edmonton.

I fillet most of mine. Cook some Spinich and lay it in a 9 x 14 pan then throw in the fillets. Cover the fillets with a white sause mixed with parmesan and white cheddar. Bake for 30 mintutes. Go buy bigger pants........

I filleted them and holy crap! I'm doing that from now on. Rustynailz technique combined with a basic filleting technique worked out perfectly. So much faster than scaling and gutting, and half the mess. And no bones to boot.
