I gotta ask. Where were they from? Great Bear? the biggest fish I've ever heard of coming out of spray is 15 pounds

Went to Spray Lake today and caught some much bigger than the original poster did. Then I realized I fell asleep in the tent and it was a dream.

We got skunked, first time ever at Spray Lake... and I've been fishin' there for at least 20ish years. Not even one bite... But it was still a great day thanks to the ice fishing tent. At least I didn't freeze from due to the howling wind.:D

Cheers

In answer to the question " how tall am I , those fish are either 40 in.

or I am 2 ft. 9" ....LOL

I was at spray , one trout was so small that the smelt was wedged in his mouth when he came up , no hook ...and the other was barely a Lb.

Those fish in the pic are from a small lake , right beside the Trans Canada
hiway in NW Ontario ...One is 32 lbs plus and the other 34 lbs plus caught on
Airplane jigs with a smelt .... I tried the jigs in spray , no luck , but with
fish the size I have caught there, maybe the Planes scare them ....

There must be a place you can get the weather forecast for spray ....

I usually go to Environment Canada Weather Office via the net and punch in "Banff". The weather reports they give for Banff are not too far off for what happens at Spray Lake give or take a couple of degrees and kms/hr wind speed. my 2cents.

Cheers

I always wondered about the polluted water in Ontario??? It looks like the people grow arms that look like fish. An amputation may be in order here.

This is a site I find useful http://www.rescuedynamics.ca/wx/canMTNwx.htm
I drilled 12 different holes and tried everything under the sun. But still need the soup cause we got skunked. The highlight of my day being watching a fellow get ticketed. Always nice to see Fish and Fur around. And th size of what comes out of spray is usually the size of the smelt you put on your hook. RH

I would like a clear explanation of how they determine

the proper bait and its origin .....

I know you cant use Manitoba Minnows , do the F&W guys want to see the packaging when they check your bait ...

Thanks W101

Ill call your bluff on the small lake, right beside the Trans Canada also. Those are OLD fish that have come from a big deep lake with lots of feed.

Yes it is a deep lake , Ciscoe base , its not a mile across,

Those are old fish , you can read the lettering on the semis door

on hiway 1 when you are fishing ..

Lake is totally ringed with cabins ......

I saw a cartoon once .....a huge fish mounted in a Fishing store window ..

Two guys on the sidewalk .... One says to the other ....

" Whoever caught that Fish ,is a liar ."

Is that a Lake Nipigon trout? I used to live in northern O and caught lots of nice lakers in the spring there, not too much unlike those ones.

It is just a little inside the Ont border from Manitoba ...

A friend who scuba dives saw these monsters there

so we tried one winter ...We caught maybe 6 fish total in

3 trips .... That lake is 0 limit now ....

caught on 1 1/2 oz airplane jig with smelt trailer ...

home made ice rod ...lots of bacbone ....

250 yds 10 lb test....When you fish 60 ft down those planes will fly

in a 20 ft circle .... Those trout would take them on the drop

so hold on to the rod ...1/2 hour or so to get them up and unlike

here you can use a gaff or youd never get them on the ice ...

If there are 10lb plus in Spray , I am sure those jigs would work ...
