Hey All
I don't mean to start up a massive debate, but I'm presenting a speech for a bunch of UofL students on a topic of my choice, and I'm thinking about presenting on the Metis Harvesting agreement as well as certain group's rights towards commercial fishing in highly regulated lakes.

I'm just hoping to get your guy's thoughts on the issue, just to get the wheels rolling on this speech.

Thanks for your input!

I speak for myself when I say that I feel discriminated against. I feel that I should have the same rights of acess as all other Canadians. I live off the food I harvest off the land and water just as much as anyone else. It is time to treat us all equally!

My god, do you even have to ask? Haven't you been paying attention? :lol

Just don't forget to drop by an aboriginal-oriented board to get the other view.

Well, I'm certainly not the person to accurately state the case, but I'd say their side of the story would have something to do with the traditional practices and rights of "aboriginal people", previous agreements, court cases, etc. As I said, I'm no expert and wouldn't try to argue their case, but if you don't have any sense of what the opposite side of the argument is, you are rather unprepared to speak publicly on this and better do some research.

Might want to try these guys... www.albertametis.com/MNA.aspx (http://www.albertametis.com/MNA.aspx)

Good luck! :D

I finally got a reply today from Ted Morton's office concerning the limited funding our fish and wildlife get and my concerns about illegal and subsistance harvest of some wildlife. Heres a link if your interested. I was going to share the entire letter but everyone can write with their own concerns for the info. Very promising!!

I do recognize aboriginal/metis rights but am concerned about certain wildlife and abuse, just like most metis invloved in the dispute. Not trying to fuel anything, just providing this for those who have not seen it.

To expand on what Tuc said, Things may have changed considerably and I wonder what is going on today? If you are doing a speach and researching "the laitest", let us know what you come up with. A "historical look at what has happened does not concern me as much.
