I saw medicmoose sold 3 with a pail of fat for $100. That's dam near $30 a beaver by my calculations :)

Supply and demand rules in a lot of areas. Carcasses seems to cost more closer to the city and they are cheaper out in the sticks where there's a lot of carcasses available for sale (or free). I've had no problem selling my carcasses for $20, but they are mainly big 2XXL and 3XXXL. I always set my prices lower for a quick sale rather than charging more and holding onto something longer. Set your prices and find someone that will buy them every spring and fall and you are set.

I'm having a hard time letting them go lol I need them for bait for next trapping season. A guy like me needs 10-15 a year just to keep the line going. That being said for $25 a piece I may have to sell a few. Got a little one last night and have another big jumbo swimming around that I was going to shoot but didn't want to take the chance of getting him in deep water and not getting him out. Will set some traps for him in a couple weeks when I chase rats I think

I agree I have had many guys ask me already. I am not a big beaver trapper (5 last year) but it gets around that a guy traps beavers and every bear hunter wants a couple. I only set one day under the ice and snabbed a small one. Due to me being a cluts I haven't been out trapping this past 2 weeks so I'll be short. But there is only one way to fix that. Set hard.

All my beaver are kept for my bear baits and winter trapping bait. If I did sell any I would have to get at least $30. Luckly I have never had to buy any before.

Price fixing beaver carcasses. I love it! Oil companies have been getting away with it for years, so why not? I can imagine the court case now. Maybe the price should go up 5 bucks on long weekends during bear season.

I based that on the fact the 5 gal fat weighed 30 lbs so it's the same a another beaver. Trying to get 25 a beaver.

They are actually worth a bit for the hair. I used to get $10 a few years ago from Halfords back when they took whole coyotes

Yeah, there's a fella in Bonnyville buying whole porky carcasses for the guard hair. I'm going to pluck the hair and quills myself. Who wants to buy the carcass? :)

Meh the fella will give you 15 bucks per porky. I skinned them sold the quills and hair and then the carcass for another 15. 30 in total is pretty decent for just skinning the animal. Halfords doesn't take the quills or gaurd hair anymore.

How do you skin a porky lol I bet that was a *****ly experienjce........:sHa_shakeshout:

Do you just skin them and salt them down after?

medicmoose

I skinned them the same way you would do a beaver. Tail was the most difficult part. No quills on the belly. Then I just froze the hide.

I think that I have a buyer for the guard hair and quills if I ever get around to plucking them. If you can find someone who normally buys the guard hair for $55/ounce from Halford's, $25 or $30/ounce is a bargain.
