Ice Fishing Tents. What would you recommend

Hey guys im looking into buying a new tent this season. I sold my ice cube as i didnt like it for a couple reasons. Real easy to set up but to move it around really stinks. Needs to get tied down everytime and need ice anchors which waste time. Snow doesnt do the job sometimes.


I was looking at buying a Frabill tent. The one man model called the Recon.

However, i've also heard the material is real cheap on frabill tents but maybe its a lie.

I'm looking for a fast setup, real easy to move around in and doesnt require to be tied down. Also a little roomy for my aqua vu :)

Any help or tips would be great.

Recon is awsome tent. Good for moving around fast. The material on frabill isn't cheap at all its alot better then what on the ice cube.

I sold my cube for the exact same reason ....

The Shappell S3000 had better be good we have two ordered .

I thought they were a little better built than the Fabrill cabin style ...

They are $329.00 at fishin hole .... There will have to be some slight modification for wind conditions ...Only time will tell ...

You should be able to pull this when all set up ....It will be interesting on

I bought a Frabill One-man about 2 years ago..last winter I bolted a folding camp chair to the bottom of it...when not in use it folds down nicely into the bottom of the tent.
Works like a charm, and i love the flip-top feature.

I've had a recon for about 4 years now and I love it. It's compact and light and you can haul a lot of gear in it. I'm not sure about the new ones but mine has a spot for a 5 gallon pail indented in the floor for the seat.

I have a shappell 6000 its the same as ice-cube 4 man only a couple of inches larger. It needs to be anchored down. I usually take portable drill with 3/8 bit and predrill holes or I park quad on upwind side on the skirt. Lotsa of room,keeps heat in good. 2 guys with all their gear makes it pretty full but if gear left out 4 guys could fish,be a little hectic if the fish were biting good.

wholesale is selling the recon dlx for 280$, when i can order it from frabill for 200$, i wonder how much shipping will cost though.

wholesale sports is sold out that's last years model and the version of the recon has a built in seat. But not sure how it handles in the wind

I have the Frabill Prowler GT. It is a great tent. Seats are very good. It handles the wind and you can anchor it down if you need to. It sets up very fast. Lots of room for 2 and you could have 3 if need be. I like that you can be on the move very fast and store all your gear in the tent.

The ice cube tents are great. I have a 4 man that I'm keeping and a new 2 man that I'm selling if you're interested. I got the 2 man for walking out spots but I need the money for another toy.

I have a 2 man Frabill hide-out, and i love it. super fast to set up and it handels the wind great, the materal is not cheep at all, in fact it is very good quality stuff..... by far the best tent i have ever owned...

I just got a Eskimo Quickfish 3 from Costco and am really impressed with it so far. Exact same idea as the ice cube but a more reputable brand and I find heavier material.

I bought a pair of Muck boots at the Fish'n Hole Boxing day sale. No more wet and cold feet for me. I got them a size larger than normal so I can wear the Bama socks which wick sweat away. So far I'm very impressed.

Wear waterproof boots. I like the open floor, I have used both. Although a hard bottom is easier for some things, I like having a flat bottom.

I have recon and it is great. Mine didn't come with a seat, so I use a bucket with a thermal heat swivel top...Wholesale has them this year, and they come with a bench built in...$155 acording to their web site, while quantitys last.

I got a Frabill Treker III ove X-Mass, I like it so far. Easy to set up, light weight and there is enough room for three people. I Comes with some nice comfortable chairs as well. The only thing I don't understand is why the travel cover does not come with it, you have to buy it separatly for $50.
