Does anyone know if there is any place in Strathmore to get smelts? Canadian Tire is too expensive. Any place in Drumheller? Or Bassano?

Try Superstore. In the Hat they have some in the freezer section.

The guy who distributes all the Bait in south alberta told me

that the gas outlet north of the #1 Hiway on the road to the Golf course

I think it is a Tempo was a good spot to buy bait ..

Best price on bait .... Whole sardines or jack mackerel

Superstore ... or portugese fish market on 17th Ave in Calgary

The grocery store in Bassano pretty big smelt and price seemed OK ...

Got my smelts at CT for $2.79 a bag. If thats too expensive, how do you afford gas to the lake?

Does anyone know where coloured smelts and minnows are sold? I know of one place in brooks but they have a limited supply usually. I have found them dyed pink and green. Lots of places that have bait have never heard of them and I wouldn't mind finding another location to scavenge from.

Have you had luck with those pink smelts? I haven't.

Wow, ive never heard of them. I have seen sticks that you can swipe color onto bait with. Huh, whoda thunk it.... I will prob have to stick with the herring. I like a bait that flashes hard.
You guys and your pink guns!! Now PINK SMELTS!!!!

We did this 30 years ago ... mix good food coloring and fish oil

and soak defrosted smelts in it till color takes ... then refreeze on wax paper ...Sit the bait on the paper on their bellies , not touching ..
Then you can just roll them up ....

Buy one of those new fish marker pens and get artistic...

yeah I was pretty skeptical when we bought them but thought we would give them a wurl. At the rattlesnake tourney we iced about 45 pike in two days with them (gave up on the plain baits). A buddy was having awesome luck with them on Newell as well.

You are right, it wasn't CT that was expensive , it was the Mowhawk in Strathmore that was high. I did get some from CT on Thursday, they only had large ones.
