Picked up a casing at the range today that I don't recognize and thought someone might know what it is. I put a few .30 cal in the picture for reference. .308, .30-06, and a .300win-mag from left to right.

On a guess I think it's a .50 cal. The case has L C 53 stamped on it.

50 BMG, Lake City Arsenal, made 1953.
Don't see much 50cal LC stuff round these parts, should prove interesting .

Thanks for the help! :)
Can't help but wonder why someone wouldn't take a case like this with them for reloading? Maybe the shoulder was too sore after firing it to think about picking up the casing heheh

i may be out to lunch here....but military casings are harder to reload because of the different stly primer and you need to modify the primer pocket to change.

A case like that takes a special primer anyways - and at 2$ a pop for an empty, I'd think it would be worth it. But is it just me, or is that case split up high on the left hand side just a bit below the shoulder?

Probably just packed up in a hurry and missed a stray MT.

That is just the reflection of the other casings. The case is in perfect shape as far as I can tell. Glad I haven't bought a 50 cal if it's $2 a peice for the casing. I thought the 50AE was expensive!
