Are there any ponds or open places around red deer area that have ice off? Want to take my nephew fishing while he's down. Obviously may 15 would be opening day I know for many places. all he talks about is fishing. So just wondering if there's any access to a stocked place near by. :/ doubt it but worth the ask

There are several trout ponds , but I'm sure all of them have ice on them still .
Keep watching bower ponds . Once the ice is off , its alright for young kids . (there is even a chance or 2 of a few pike still left in there !!!

I'm not sure if the other ponds in the Red Deer parks system have been stocked as of late . If your willing to do a bit of driving , there are lots of ponds within a half hour of Red Deer .

Waskasoo park pond.

Great for your nephew to fish since you can see the trouts rising but I would definitely wait till mid-end of April for the action to kick in.

Bower and heritage ranch ponds are both still frozen.

Hillers trout pond is ice free. Four miles south of the Olds overpass and 1.5 miles east on a district road. You can find it pretty easy on Google Earth.

I was out there 4 days ago and only some open spots. Mostly ice covered yet. The wind over the past two days may have helped to open more of it up. The lake won't be open until mid to late May.
