I'm going to start off this thread with a total downer story:

Over Christmas this past year my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's. While the initial prognosis is really positive, there is a lot of uncertainty about how the disease will progress and what his physical capacity will be in the coming years. My dad just turned 51, so he is still looking forward to an active lifestyle well into his 60s.

One of my dad's dreams was to go on a fly in pike trip with his boys. I was out at his place over Easter and there seemed to be a greater sense of urgency to get moving on a trip.

I was hoping for some suggestions on a fly in destination in northern Alberta or norther Saskatchewan. We are looking for something fully or partially guided with accommodations and food included. Our party would be as few as 3 and as many as 6.

If you would prefer to keep your secret destination quieter, feel free to DM me.

The best of the best. Lac la Matre or Talston River. Probably the two best pike spots on earth!!!! Don't mess around have him enjoy the best experience he can !!! Life is short

Wollaston Lake Lodge for trophy Pike and Lake Trout, you can't go wrong. WLL also does fly in trips to other smaller Pike lakes, leaving from the lodge with their own aircraft, so you aren't fishing just one lake - you pick the species you want to catch, leave the rest to the guide team to take you and your father into world class fishing opportunities. Great food, great accommodations, great service and great fishing!

Arctic Grayling and Walleye are also abundant, so if you get tired of catching monster trophies, you can also try out other species.

Fresh fish shore lunches prepared everyday by your guide too.

Check out some of their videos and photos, good luck and enjoy your trip with your Father - I am sure he will really enjoy his trip with you. Great idea to get him and you out for some quality father & son time.

Lac La Martre would be my pick for a fly in pike adventure. Huge pike in large numbers plus the Lake Trout fishing is outstanding as well. I have fished that lake multiple times and it never disappoints. Each year guests one up that have fished other fly ins and most say that this is the best lake that they have fished.
Whichever one you choose I hope you have a great time. If you are planning for this year I would not hesitate as the best times for big pike right after ice out may already be full.

Have a look at Brabant lodge.com or Trout rock Wilderness Lodge on Great Slave Lake.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

You pay for quality...and by the looks of many of these lodges you pay quite a bit. I'm trying to find some options that keep us under $3,000 per person including getting ourselves to the muster point. The NWT options look incredible, but I worry that getting ourselves to Yellowknife would spiral our costs out of control.

Some great initial content to look at here!

I wrote a big write up on an amazing lodge that I went to a few years ago. Here is the link.

We are planning a second tip back this summer, as it was an amazing time with unforgettable service, fishing, scenery and meals.

Yellowknife is 15 hr drive paved all the way. Take 2 days and stop at Alexandria falls, Lady Evelyn Falls see some buffalo and Deh Cho bridge at Fort Providence. Great road trip. There is nothing close to NWT fishing round here. Pike 42 to 50 inch all day long with 24 hr sun. Pike Paradise.

Sounds like an amazing adventure. The costs actually look quite manageable. I imagine that the quoted costs start once you got to Lac La Ronge. How far of a drive do you figure that would be from Calgary? I'm curious if a flight from Saskatoon to Lac La Ronge + the entire package would be less than $3K.

We did the drive, i believe we did it in about 8 hrs. You can get a flight from saskatoon to La Ronge with the same company that flys you into the lodge (Transwest Air). I believe it was around 550is return. DJ the owner is pretty accommodating and can usually work things out for his guests, if you have any more questions just shoot me a PM
