Hey everyone, what type of mounts,or hardware are you all you using to mount your comfy seats on your aluminium boats bench seats. Looking for any pics or advice before I bolt any hardware down to my new boat. This is my set up.

Nice new tinner!

Take out the boat with your main fishing buddy, and have them sit in different spots in the boat and see how it affects the boat getting/staying on plane. Pick your seat for you in the stern, on the opposite side of the fuel tank for better balance.

Installing seats on the benches will maintain plenty of room to move about in the boat, as opposed to installing pedestals into the floor. Balance in a tinner is a necessary component to get the most out of your motor. If the bow or stern is too heavy, it will not get on plane - at least very easily.

The padded folding seats are great, as they don't take up much space, and they are comfortable during bumpy rides. Definitely install swivels on the seats.

Once you have picked the location and installed your seats. Sit in them and pick where you would like your rod & cup holders to be installed. If you are fishing a lot, I recommend a rocket launcher style rod holder for transportation to and from fishing spots, and when you boat a fish and need to put your rod down. A rod holder like this will ensure you don't accidentally step, or trip on your rod. I had something similiar to that many moons ago and i built a casting platform where the 3 front bench seats are, telescopic seat right there and never drilled a hole into the boat. I loved the setup and it worked awesome, rear of the boat i left as is and just used 2 flat lifesaver pads glued together to save my butt, of course i was 20 so not much bothered me.

This thing looks pretty awesome ! I don't think I'm going this hardcore this year on my boat. If I can easily mount 2 seats on the bench I will be happy. Preferably a swivel mount that won't raise the seat much higher then the bench is because of my short legs haha.

Some good advice here...I would definitely do a test run on the water before permanently mounting seating/accessories. Make sure you use stainless hardware and maybe some lock washers or loctite as things get bounced around pretty good in a tinner.

I used these swivel bases:

Thanks for the post Freedom55, the more I've been looking around lots of guys are using the threaded kingpin seat mount and base. Looks like this is exactly what I need. I can put one on all the benches and get about 3 seats and I can easily move them around. Found a few more pics of guys using them and a how to video on how to install them.

how easy is it to remove the seats with that post type mount? I looked at them in the store but was unable to get them apart. I want to install the bases in all my benches and have 3 seats that I would be able to move around depending on how many people and what were doing....

It took a bit of time to figure out exactly were to drill the holes for the post , you don't want to mess this up so I bought the seats I liked and placed them on the bench and moved them around till I found the sweet spot every where.

Nice work. I will be doing something similar this year. Did you bolt the seat bases on? I can only assume you did. It would be easy in the rear benches for you since you can get under those. How much of a pain was it to take off the other benches? It's probably not a big deal, but just some time invested.

Did you use any type of silicone or marine sealant around the seat bases - would you think that is necessary?

What about on your nuts and bolts - did you use lock nuts/washers/Loctite? I just really don't want those bases to come loose. I drive quite a bit of rough gravel and that really shakes the boat up and can shake things loose.

i did all the work in a few hours, the benches are easy to remove and all the plates are bolted down with stainless steel bolts washers and lock nuts. I did use marine silicone for around all the bases. I need to remove a little foam from under the benches so the plate could sit flush but that was a piece of cake. The bases fit pretty snug in the 2" hole.

Just to throw it out there. I have 2 year old lund with the same plywood seats. I took them off this spring sanded all the rough edges down and gave it 2 coats of spar varnish. I could see that the plywood needs somthing or it will weather and crap out in a few years.

Hey looks good ! I can't tell if you have the spring still on the male end of the post but I removed all mine . The extra inch it gave my short legs made a big difference and felt a lot more comfortable . My friends about 5'11" and he found it was better with out the spring also. If it feels good with it though then leave it alone. It wasn't very hard removing the spring either just took a good hit with a hammer and screw driver.

Thanks,

I am going to take a couple of the springs off as my wife cant touch the ground when seated with the spring but I have long legs and like the extra height.

I wanted to add a base the the other tiller bench seat but the base won't fit with the fuel tank I have. Might have to look at a low profile fuel tank.

Right on that's what I'd did . Bought a 12L tank and I also have a 5L Jerry can in the boat also. I can usually get a full day on winefred with the 12L . What engine do you have on your boat?

Lund quality must be slipping :thinking-006: ...I owned a 98 SSV-14 for many years, used the heck outta it and the perma-ply benches still looked great. After I built removable floor sections I wanted the benches to match (but mostly to be easy to clean) so I cut new pieces from thinner 5/8" (I think) plywood so it would fit into the metal gussets once wrapped in vinyl decking.

One thing I forgot to mention but someone else could you the info. I placed the seats to be able to spin 360 degrees without touching the side wall supports. Saves the seats from getting chewed up and worn out.
