Hi guys does anyone have any experience with the stainless bolt on skegs do they create more drag or mess up the steering? Or should I take it to a shop and have it rebuilt?

Did my Nissan 140HP outboard and it worked great. I did not notice any issues.

Great question. I've often wondered that myself. Gotta love those unknown shallows!

Never repair a skeg on a rig that goes over 50 mph. If it let's go ur done for. If slower repairs work well..both welded and bolt on

What happens if it lets go?

My fishing boat I want to fix is around 45 -50 mph

I'm guessing you might have some directional control problems.

If it let's go at speed you instantly lose a major part of ur steering control. If a repair is ur only option go with welded as it is a stronger repair.

Mine steered fine without repair and installed a SS repair kit . Works great and no issues. It is a bolt on.
