Hey guys it looks like the family vacation is going to be out on the island and of course the first thing on my mind is salmon/halibut fishing. Who would you recommend for doing either a half day/ full day charter?

Depends on where you where going?if you where doing a half day charter don't count on both species depending on where u are it can be a long run out to the fishing grounds.where on the island are you visiting

Tofino is a great place to take the family. Beautiful area. Tons of stuff to do. Lots of good guides as well. Not the biggest Hali's but plenty of them. Still quite a few chinooks around. The big coho are moving in as well. Pretty good inshore fishing if it's rough outside. Can't keep the chinooks inshore in August though. Pm me if u want an accommodation recommendation.

If your staying by the Malahat your closest and best options are sooke and port Renfrew for guided fishing charters, august is the best time of year for big spring salmon.fishing out of sooke you will have calmer waters with no big west coast rollers like renfrew.but if you brave renfrew its a 1hr boat ride out to the bank in some possible big seas but you would be rewarded with halibut and salmon.in sooke you would be chasing big springs and if you wanted you could anchor up for halibut but there not too plentiful there that Tim of year

Last year spent two days in August fishing with Gill from G&M Charters (Ucluelet). Very happy.

Spencers Sport fishing out of Sooke, many great trips with "Cal". Another fella "Harvey Woods" is both Sooke and Renfrew (Halibut zone). These guys have provided fish and fantastic time on the water.

If your looking to load up you want 8hrs , 6hrs is great for families with young kids.

I offer 4hr trips as well which are afternoons we hook a few fish and enjoy the afternoon sunshine great way for anglers to get out that aren't looking to be up in the early AM :)
