Ghost has been windy last few days, lots of snow drifts large and small with the howling winds, checked ice 4 days ago was only 12 inches in most spots with the odd 13 to 14 inches guys have been driving on lake hmmmmm, fishing is hit and miss on lake anywhere is just as good as the rest, white fish are in 10 to 20 feet lakers are up and down with the weather changes lately .

there is about 6 shacks on the lake right now , lots of guys show up with tents either heading west on the lake to the bays or up the ghost end of the lake wind has been awful today high winds chinook blowing in but normale tents work out there.

I read that the Indians named the ghost river for the spirits they used to believe were up and down the ghost river valley

i was there today . it was really slow. had 6 bites but no fish..(i assume that was whitefish) weather was changing that's probably why... drilled at least 40 holes and tried a wide depth range (1.5-20 m) fish finder showed lots of fish but they were just swimming around 2m from the bottom... yet another day... will go there next weekend.

whad do you guys use for bait there? i fish that lake a lot in summer, but never had much luch ice fishing there :( usually fish south of the boat launch. are there better places?
any help will be appreciated!

We tried 5 holes one year and never broke through to water. Ice can get very thick.

A buddy of mine was out the other day says there is 14 inches of ice where they are up the ghost end they caught a few white fish in 12 feet of water and seen a few lakers on the camera but nothig bitting was really windy though, this morning at 7:29 am theres not a breathof wind out here so should be a good day to fish exspecial if weather changes on thursday, as far as the ice being that hick you cant drill you were probaly within ten to twenty feet of shore were it floods all the time the last time i seen thick ice on the lakre was24 years ago in feb there was 46 inches of ice but it had been 15 to 29 below for a month lol

well ill give it a try ... is there any danger fishing near dams in ice fish fishing season ?

I would avoid getting close to the dam itself. I'm pretty sure it's a bottom draw (but not enrirely sure), so the surface water won't be moving much, but then you get into potential problems of the water around the dam being warmed by the structure itself in the sun. It's really deep there as well. I've fished there for over 10 years and have never seen a single person fishing close to the dam on the ice, so that may say something itself. And I've never marked much in the way of fish right in front of the dam in the summer, so it doesn't seem to be a spot with good odds (for fish or safety).

Likewise, if you cross under the bridge, avoid getting too close to the pillars, as they often melt the ice around them. I've seen it wide open right around the pillars in the middle of winter.

and what end of the Reservoir is the dam or bridge?

East end. The resevoir is just an expansion of the bow river, so the river flows in at the west and the dam is in the east. You can see it from the old highway.

Sounds ****ty if you know what i mean ... so the bow flows into the old man ghost Reservoir?

Albertadiver

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_Lake_%28Alberta%29

Synopsis above, I believe the old man flows in near the dam itself, but the main source of water for the lake is the Bow itself.

Wikipedia is amazing... so what i got from that and google maps is that the bow flows from ghost lake .... so its all good

So i went fishing on monday ... and got skunked... i was there from 7 am - 12 pm , not even a nibble! Used all sorts of bait and drilled about a dozen holes. None the less it was a nice day and it was nice to get out.

Bait is allowed in the ghost Lake. The water supplies that fill the lake are the bow river and the Ghost river, has nothing to do with the old man. Fish for whites in 3-20 ', Laker 30-50'. The larger ones come up to feed in the 30-40' range. Fish early morning, the bite is usually over by 12 and won't start up again until 3.

well if you try Spray you may at least catch something , might not be too big though. I did see a 5 pound laker come out of ghost once and we managed to get a 4 pound burbot and a nice rocky there but it is a tough lake to fish
