I picked up some new rods, paired with Penn fierce reels, couple catfish rods Ive always wanted to try for dinos, a couple more glow rods and a big 10 foot Shakespeare Contender medium heavy action spinning rod that should be great for the bigger dinos from shore. Also an 8 1/2 foot tidewater Baitcaster with a Shakespeare line counter reel for the long casts I need sometimes. Still love my Tiger rods but thought Id see how these other rods compare. been using a bigger Penn graphite rod and reel with the tiger rods, great light and tough setup when your arms get tired with the heavy tigers. Still prefer the tigers from the boat though, no comparison for flexibility when a big fish dives under the boat. guess I have a bit of an addiction :bad_boys_20: oh well more reason to spend more time on the river!

Sturgeon beware! New season, new gear. Looks like you're off to a good start already, but your goal is missing a zero. :bad_boys_20: See you on the river.

Ive been using 50 pound and 65 pound tufline on my spinning reels and 80 on my baitcasters and it works well.

I like 4/0 gammakatsu octopus hooks they are strong enough for any lake sturgeon and small enough that goldeye and other fish can still take them so you dont get boredbetweeen dinos:) jus caught another 55.5 incher on my new wildcat rod. Handled it no problem and bends nicely!

first sturgeon for this rod. 55 plus inches. less than 5 minutes after I got to my spot. feels whippy but its actually a medium heavy, I have a Penn Fierce spinning reel on it and 65 pound TUFline, I like it Im going to put it to a lot of use this season:sHa_shakeshout:
