Hi all,

What's a good size cutthroat/what's your biggest? My friend caught a massive one from Lake XYZ tonight... unbelievable.

I'll post the aftermath photo as I don't know if I feel like plastering his face on the forum lol:sHa_shakeshout:

Nice big spawning male.
How do spawners taste compared to immature fish?

This one was 24 but chunky... It was all muscle. Easily 4-5lbs....what a fight on the fly that size too.

I've not fished for our native West Slope Cutthroat but my time on Vancouver Island had me fishing the Coastal Cutthroat - what beautiful fish! Never caught anything huge, the biggest being just shy of 19".

Beauty fish guys! My best Cutty's only been 14-15" . But I have looked, mainly on the east slopes west of Rocky & Nordegg area.

My best Cutthroat was a 22" hooked jaw male caught on a yellow stimulator in the Old Man River. I caught him in about 5" of water. I actually saw his back and dorsal fin sticking out of the water as he swam towards the fly. He even had a San Juan Worm with 6" of leader still in his mouth. Hard to believe he would keep eating with that other fly still stuck in him. I released that fish and a few casts later hooked a 20" chunky female on the same fly. What a day. Unfortunately I have no pictures, just memories. I usually don't bother trying to take pictures when fishing by my self. They usually don't turn out and the extra time out of the water is not good for the fish. Only 40 more days and I will be back down there chucking flies.

The wife and I caught over a 100 cuts over 24 inches in a 4 day period. the largest was 28" After been dead for 4 days it was still 26 inches and weighted 6 lbs 4 ozs The lake that they where caught is now closed for fishing, The story I was told was there was a land slide and most of the fish where killed. That lake is now where most of the brood stock for cuts come from.

I haven't fished much for Cutthroat in Alberta so my biggest is about 16 inch. That one your buddy caught is a beautiful fish!

Here's my biggest cutt from AB, Landslide Lake.... hmmm seems it has disappeared into the archives of internet history.

Oh well... if you want to catch a big cutthroat fish where they have Lahontan Cutthroat. Specifically Pyramid lake in Nevada which has the worlds largest Cutts!

Here's my biggest Cutthroat trout.

Nice fish guys! So I am from North of Edmonton. How far west/south do i have to go to catch cutthroats? Always have wanted to! Any general pointers would help. Are there any in lakes or only streams/rivers?:thinking-006:
