Last time I was out at piogeon, I drilled several holes in areas that no-one had gone yet this season. On my third hole I ran my camera down and had 2 big whites smiling right at me, about a foot under the ice. Saw lots of whites and Pike, most were feeding off the bottom, 9-13ft. Northeast of Ma Me O.
For me, wire worms work great. Get'em close to the bottom and make sure they sit horizontal on the line. it's all about presentation.
