Who would you recommend for a fishing charter in this area? I'm looking for the guy that has the right attitude and wants to work hard, of course is knowledgable and has a comfortable boat, as I am taking ladies!

Which outfits would you steer us away from? Don't want a crappy boat, crappy guide, or ugly gear.

Morning magic. Out of ucluelet. Great guy. I go every year in july. He has log cabin rentals and always knows where the fish are at. Halibut, cod, salmon.

There are 2 companies that I have used out of Ucluelet. One is Paul from Castaway Charters. Paul is really great. http://castawaycharters.ca/

The second is Kelly from Reel Adventures Fishing Charters. http://reeladventuresfishing.com/

There is one out of Tofino that I know of It's called Clayoquot Ventures Tofino Fishing. I haven't used them. But I have talked to Jay the owner on many occasions, and if I were going out of Tofino they are who I would use.

I second this 1000x. We've been fishing every year with Nick for the better part of 2 decades, sometimes twice a year, and he has never disappointed. He goes above and beyond, and even in the slower fishing years his expertise shines through and we've never missed getting our limits.

Thanks for the input. I booked in with Castaway for a day, Aug 12 I'd have time for an afternoon trip before. Question for you, are afternoon trips worth the money or does one have to get out into the open ocean to fill the boat.

My understanding is that the half day inshore trips are all salmon, are the salmon inshore during second week August or will inshore fishing be slow?

Where on the island will inshore fishing be hot second week August?

I fished the Tofino area a few years ago in August. We fished off shore in the morning for Chinook salmon and Halibut and then hit the in-shore areas in the afternoon for Coho. We had 4 people fishing and had no trouble getting our limits within an hour or so. It's a great time to get one on the fly rod.

Will be out that way in July, what was the cost?

We fished with Hymax charters. Greg is the owner and is one hell of a fishing guide. We were a group of 5 ranging in age from 19 - 76. It was quite comical when the two old guy's (my dad and uncle both basically deff) would get a double header. The fish would be fighting and they had to switch sides of the boat so that the lines would not tangle. Greg was shouting directions but both old guys were in the zone and did not hear anything. Luckily we never lost a fish and had a fantastic time. We caught Chinook, Coho, and Halibut. Funny enough all on basically the same plug. We actually never used bait. I think we paid about $1400 per day for all 5 of us and we fished for 2 days. We got our limits every day. As an added bonus he threw out crab pots on the way out in the morning and we got about 8 keepers each day. I would highly recommend him.
