Pigeon Lake is loaded with them. I have no idea how to catch them in open water. You should be able to dip net them in August when the algae bloom hits. They will be bloated and skinky though.

Summer fishing for whites a person can try something like a 4 cm castmaster over deep water at places like Pigeon. Drift with your boat if not too windy and jig the castmasters a foot or two off of bottom as you slowly drift. Jig the castmaster a two or three feet length. Whites like biting on the down movement alot of times.

If the whitefish are on the surface, you will see them sucking the surface without really rising too much, try a wireworm a foot or two under a bobber.

Big whites like small dacy or spot tail minnows too. Would have to experiment with how you could rig them.

Good luck in your quest.

Don't do the above with the net, very illegal.

Right, you don't want to do that....very much so illegal.
What you could try is electro fishing or some good old TNT, just be a good distance away for method #2 you don't want anyone to get hurt.

What I started doing is when I go to a lake that has walleye and whites and not sure where the whites are I add a small bead head nymph 10 inches up from my jig and minnow it's something I do all the time now and always seem to find the whites swimming with the eyes never has failed me yet and it makes for a exciting day.good luck!

What he meant by this post is that in late summer at pigeon lake the whitefish die off and the surface will be covered with dead whitefish carcasses.

here is some help

Tips watch for them feeding then anchor close by:shark:

Use a Fly Rod or a Spin cast with a indicator or bobber float

under the indicator use a nymph/fly or wire worm under bobber

if its 4 fow I like too be down 1 1/2 to 2 fow .. if its 10 fow I like 8 feet down

if its windy no worry as its moving the fly/wire worm

if its not strip it in /move the bobber closer to you then do it again and again

the last picture is a video just hit it

try to stay sitting in boat as they are spooky:scared0018:

as always this is

Food for Thought

Thats actually a very interesting tip. I wonder if it would also work for perch?

Yup it will catch perch I've managed perch, whites and rainbows all on the same set up all on the same day, my buddy would give me a hard time when I started doing this at first but now he's all in.Its a great system if it doesn't work out the first time just keep trying.
