Got our for a few hours last night, landed one 10" rainbow right off the hop, the rest of the night was only a few nibbles from what I think were tiny little fish. Nothing else landed, and only saw a few other people pulling in a few little ones.

The neat thing about about Cardiff is that it is so deep in spots that fish generally don't winterkill, and you never know when a BIG one might hook up.
Did you catch any crayfish?

Cardiff is only just over 30 ft in one area, despite popular belief. Paddled it many times with a FF.

Darn! Another pond myth shattered. I have been told for years that Cardiff pond used to be a gravel/coal operation with some spots being 100 ft. deep.

Probably used to be before it was a fishing hole.

Nope. Cardiff winter killed every year since 2010. No more perch or lunker bows. I live 5 min away and have fished it for >20 yrs, saw the dead perch myself. The problem is early ice and wayyy to much weed growth. Water stinks before New Years.

Op, unfortunately you will only catch this years stocked rainbows there.

Cardiff DID NOT WINTER KILL last winter. There were plenty of 11-12" this spring before it was stocked. Caught my first fish on a fly from my kayak back at end of April 12" sure wasn't stocked yet.

My bad, meant stock from 2014. Anyway, the rest of my post was correct.

Ya the guy I caught was likely from last year 9-10" , you could see the little newbies jumping like crazy only about 4-5"
