Greetings

Anyone out there try this new calibre at all? They are touting its long range and accuracy as well.

Just read that Savage has new single shot in target gun ( new model 12 style)...good old 308 calibre haf inch at 500 yds with hand loads, one inch with factory loads.

Personally, it makes me smile as I have trouble seeing that far !!!!!

Nothing new about the 6.5x284Win. It's been around in the 1000yard world for over 20 years, it just took SAAMI to give it an official designation to get one of the big name manufactureers to chamber it. Not much out there for factory fodder right now, but it's easy to reload for, and brass is out there, just a bit cyclical in availablity.
Everything the 6.5'06 can do the 6.5x284 will do in a shorter action, all though the 6.5x284 is perfered in a long action so that those long 6.5 pills can be seated out near the start of the rifling.

Checkout the April issue of Shooting Times magazine, just got it in the mail today. They have a great article on the 6.5-284.
Could be a popular calibre in those who like long range accuracy in a short action light weight rifle ie) sheep hunters. Might give the 7mm -08 a run popularity once the word gets out.
