What do You think about this one.... is it here to stay for a while, replacing 300WM or will be gone in near future...

I'm sure it will be around forever. Don't think it will ever replace the old Win mag but for guys looking for a shorter action in their bolt action rifle, it's a great choice. Many sheep hunters really like it because it does help shave weight off a rifle. Performance wise they are pretty well a wash but it's a great calibre for bolt action rifles.

I'm sorry that these short mags weren't out when I bought my 300 RUM, I would of gotten into them.. Sometimes that 300ultra is just to much gun for the shoulder.. Really a 300mag is all the gun a guy needs, and I really like the looks of the short rounds...

No, actually the performance is pretty well identical in factory loads anyhow.

With handloads, the 300winmag actually offers slightly better ballistics.

So true that the Win. Mag. does offer a bit more if your hand loading, something to the order of 50 to 100fps. In reality it does'nt amount to a hill of beans difference. And the WSM does it with 5 to 7 grs. less powder.
The WSM's will survive, perhaps some will falter and be dropped from factory loadings, but the 300 and 270 offerings will live on for many years for sure.

I too think that the WSM will stay around for a while and I am planning on getting into a Sako grey wolf in a 7mm short myself.

Already owning a 300 WM is whats pushing me to the 7mm but defidently fell that the short mags are great little guns.

Now if you are looking to get one the only thing I might want to mention is that (not sure if this applies to the 300WSM) but the only thing would be you might be limmited in the weight of lead you can buy/load and if you plan on buying factory ammo I belive that the Short action loads are a bit more pricey.

Cheers
Mike
