Fixing a reel seat

Out the other night and I tightened my reel up a little to much. It's a nice rod, although the not to expensive. I have found replacement handles but I'm not sure how hard it will be to replace it will be. It's a manufactured rod, not custom built as you might imagine, so everything is epoxy coated. My Dad builds fly rods but has never tried tearing down a rod. Anyone have any good advice for getting it off? I have since got a new rod but I do like this one too.
