Maligne Lake this fall

Hi all,

I am quite excited right now... I just booked three nights at Maligne for our annual Brook trout fishing trip!

Sept 18/19 at Coronet Creek, and 20th at fisherman's Bay on the way home.

Last year we rented a voyageur canoe, 20 fter or whatever... Just too damn heavy and expensive. Instead, we're electing to bring my 16ft aluminum and 55 lb Minn kota transom mount motor.

Can anyone guess what my question will be? Haha how many batteries will we need for our 4 day trip to coronet return. Last year we had 4 batteries and it (just) lasted us for a 2 night trip to fisherman's Bay and back.

I'm thinking bringing 6, or maybe 3-4 and bring a huge solar panel charger along. Any suggestions and information guys? If the solar panels would work, which model and power wattage do you suggest? As you can tell I know nothing about the electronic side of things... I just catch the fish!

Thanks in advance guys. I hope this thread gets a good swap of stories going! I'd love to hear your input on the trip in general.

I like a minimum 2 R28 or bigger for a 14ft per day- 2 Mini Kota 55#:test:

I will use the first battery to go low for fish finder

I have fish Maligne and Medicine for 50 years

on using solar power .. we tried not good results as mountains

don't go over 75% speed and only in spurts ..all of my travel I am fishing

Last 6 years we take 2 boats and ty them together with rope and buoys

My suggestion would be to shut the motor off and grab the oars. I've caught a few nice trout paddling before. Saves batteries real good. Make sure you have some good oars and a big strong boat mate.

Great info guys... I'll definitely have oars on board to supplement the batteries, but I think we're pretty sold on the idea and may still try out solar panels to recharge batteries while they are not in use (unless someone really has a really strong reason not to try).

And Red Bullets, that is a great link for explanation of battery life and amperage draws on TMs! Thanks for the link.
