Looking at a '76 Peterborough open bow. 14' 50hp. I was hoping someone on here has had one or fished in one and could share some opinions. Good deal $1100 for everything.
THoughts...

Thanks

That 50hp a Mercury? If so they were a smoth running 4 cyl engine, prob need a tune-up and lower unit/impeller service.

The boat might have rot in the transom or floor, check for soft spots.

Thats a really good deal . most are going between $1500-2000.
I would take it to a lake and take it for a good 20 min test drive.
If he says no don't buy it.

Is it fibreglass? A 40 year old fg boat could very well be absorbing water. They don't last forever.

yeah fiberglass, what would the signs of absorbing water be?

I've bought and sold boats. Too many tire kickers. I would never let someone test drive my boat.
Take someone with you if you lack experience so you know what you are looking at. Bring a set of muffs to run the engine via garden hose and bobs your uncle.
Buyer beware

If that is the Evinrude or Johnson 50 hp I would stay away from it. They had a tendency to crack.

like mentioned above, unless the floor and transom have been replaced they are most certainly rotten.

Hence, I would stay away

I just gave a 60 hp ego rude 1983 Peterborough open bow away from. That was a deal. Rotten floor. I wouldn't bite on a 76.
